A Glimpse Inside My Closet

Today I thought I would do a little something different than an outfit post.  I wanted to give all of you a glimpse into my closet.

I have come to the realization that I am a lover of shopping for pretty things, I have accumulated way too much stuff, and my closets are a hot mess!  This is an exercise for me to do two things and reach two goals:  1)  Clean out my closets and get better organized and 2) STOP SHOPPING and remix what I have.

Kayla and I kind of got away from one of main reasons why we wanted to do a blog and that was remix what we already have.  Kayla and I had a discussion about this while we were out school shopping this weekend and she also has come to the realization that she is a clothes hoarder too.  So this is the first step in admitting that we need help!  So in the coming months, Kayla and I both plan to try and remix more and shop less.  We can't promise that neither one of us will shop, but we will be trying to take the approach of one in one out (or maybe three out) and try not to shop until at least Christmas or longer.  Wish us luck!

This is a look into my closet today.  Next weekend we will do a feature on Kayla's closet.

This is where a lot of my blazers and shirts get hung up.  A lot of these are my husband's shirts too, but you get the idea.  There is a lot of clothes hanging up, it's jammed packed!

The scarf collection

A small portion of the shoe collection in the closet downstairs (these are just the summer shoes)

The closet in my bedroom.  The top shelf has jeans and this top part is tops and blazers

The bottom half of the closet in my room with skirts and pants

A glimpse into the jewelry armoire.  Kayla and I do share a lot of the jewelry, so this is both of ours

More jewelry that doesn't fit in the armoire
As you can see, there is a lot of stuff.  This doesn't include any dresses (which are in Kayla's closet) or any of the winter items that are packed away for the season.

Do you ever think you have too much?

  2. I am actually on a a similar journey to organize my closet. I want to be able to SEE everything inside. I tend to forget about some of my favorite pieces because I cannot SEE them, lol.

  3. Yes, I often think I have too much. I'm trying to sell or donate as much or more than I bring in, but I haven't been very successful this week. I'm working on it, though!

  4. I definitely think I have too much, and I applaud your courage in sharing pics of your closet. I only have one normal-sized closet - but the second hanger I bought for it at Bed Bath & Beyond broke, forcing me to hang some things in my hubby's closet. He doesn't hang up clothes, but he understandably wants to feel like he has a closet that is HIS.

I very much want to work with what I have and instituted a shopping ban - but discovered that while it helped cut down on impulse-buying, it got derailed by 40% off offers. So I have some work to do on analyzing my shopping, and shopping my own closet.

  5. This is such a fun post! I love taking a peek in other people's closets. I'm guilty of shopping too much as well. Learning to remix is such an important skill. It helps you make the most out of what you own. I feel like I own too many shoes, too many dresses... A little too much of everything. Can't wait to see Kayla's closet next week. Thanks for sharing, Heather!

  6. Yowza! What a collection! There is one way around this kind of hoarding: buy more expensive items with the same budget. You'll save the space and have high quality items you love. You can't lose here.

I too have a *slight* issue with stuff eating up my space but I'm following my own advice here :D

  8. I often look at my closet and think I have waaay too much. I do my best to edit and really think before a purchase. I also like to have things in order, so I'm constantly organizing and when I do that I usually edit a bit.

  9. You are not alone... Since I started blogging, I realized that prior to my blogging days, I had my work uniform down to a science...and I bought those particular things I knew that worked well on me...IN ABUNDANCE!

I am cleaning out my closet for Fall, and going to list a lot of things on ebay throughout September. It's BAD. I have 2 closets in my condo, plus an armoire full of sweaters, a dress full of camisoles, tanks, sleeves items, and then a FULL closet at my parent's house.

  10. I have good amount of clothes to but this year I made a new year resolution not to buy that many new clothes. Which I have been doing ever well at. I remix my clothes on a daily basic. Petty soon i will be at 400 remix outfits on my blog.
