Yesterday and today I took vacation days from my day job. I am not really on vacation off to some tropical island, but instead it's a little bit of what I call "mental health days" and a staycation rolled into one. I got Miss M off to her first day of school yesterday morning:
| On Miss M: Shirt (Justice for Girls), Shorts (Arizona, JCPenney), Shoes (Converse) |
I learned that this kid was soooo excited to be going into 2nd grade! I also learned that she would like to decide what to wear on her own without my help. She did do a great job picking out her first day of school outfit I must say.
I also learned that although I don't really have a green thumb when it comes to gardening, that I don't always kill everything that I plant:
These daisies were on the brink of death not too long ago, but with a little bit of TLC, I brought these little guys back to life! This is a huge accomplishment for me, because I killed a cactus that my husband has had since he was in 1st grade!
I also learned that being home all alone doing some business stuff (our new family business), doing loads of laundry, and blogging, that it was so quiet! I don't get peace and quiet very often so this was great, but weird. I also learned that my dog likes to go through the doggy door every five minutes. I wonder if he does that while we are gone all day?
I also learned that after seeing pictures of me in this shirt, that my boobs are not big enough to fill out this top!
| Top & Sandals (Walmart), Skirt (Forever 21), Necklace (Kohl's), Ring (NY & Co), Bracelet (??) |
Although I don't think I will be rocking this top again, I do like the colors paired with the mustard yellow skirt. It was perfect for a day hanging also at the bank and the post office. Another thing I learned on my day off, the post office is packed with cute little old ladies and little old men sending off their packages!
Do you ever take your photos and realize it's not what you thought when you looked in the mirror?
I know most of you are starting your three day holiday to celebrate Labor Day and the last big hurrah of the summer. Have a safe and happy weekend! Kayla will be back with a post tomorrow rocking her new haircut and color!
Oh Heather, you are hilarious! I think the shirt looks fine, actually. maybe pull it down a bit then BELT. :)

LOVE "staycations!" Those are the BEST!
ReplyDeleteAnd YES, I have taken photos and it's not what I thought! There's been time where I think, "I can't believe I walked out of the house like that!" I didn't realize I've "got back" until I started taking pictures! LOL. Not a LOT of back, but enough that I have to be careful not to get the porn-booty look if I wear tight fitting clothes. LOL.
XOXO

I'm glad you took a day off for yourself, how fun!! I always enjoy having some "me" time at home just to catch up with my to-do's around the house. I really love the colors of your top, and it indeed looks great with that yellow skirt :)

OMG Miss M. looks ADO-RA-BLE!! And your chevron top is so pretty. It goes with sooooo many colors. You are really taking in the last days of summer with this fun, colorful outfit. =)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great day just catching up on "you" stuff. Miss M has some great style...my big boy told me today he wanted to pick out his own clothes!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed a nice mental health day. i pretty much took those weekly in high school haha.
ReplyDeletei love that top, sorry you are retiring it!
Chic on the Cheap
Boy, Miss M is on her way to become a fashionista!
ReplyDelete"Do you ever take your photos and realize it's not what you thought when you looked in the mirror?" -- Every single day. I have fit and other issues you wouldn't believe. Wearing girl-clothes, for me, is like trying to enter your house through the little dog-door. I can squeeze through, but only with lots of effort and a loss of poise.
Thanks for stopping by. I answered to you on my blog but I wanted to make sure you read it so here it is:
ReplyDeleteI am a shoe-aholic, besides a clothes-aholic. LOL It is not a good thing. All that money I could have saved.
Awwww and I own at least 35 headbands. I guess you could say I am addicted to them, as well. I agree they are a perfect and easy accessory to add some prettiness to your hair. They keep the hair away from the face, too.
Hope you & Kayla have a Fantastic weekend, as well. =)
Maybe you can alter the top to make it fit better? It just looks so great with that skirt!
ReplyDeleteThe top looks lovely with the skirt! I would try pulling it down a bit to give a more definite line around the waist:)

Sounds like you had the perfect day off. Miss M is too cute for words! I was always super excited about the first day of school too.
ReplyDeleteOne, that Miss M is one stylish little lady. I love her back to school look! And two, and will be laughing at your dead cactus for a very long time, I think, because that is JUST the sort of thing that I would do :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a relaxing - and educational - day off! Glad that you got to enjoy some time at home! Miss M is too darling for words and I'm glad she's such a school girl at heart! I'm also glad you shared this outfit, because I love that skirt! The bright top is a great addition. Enjoy the long weekend!

I am glad you enjoyed a day off to yourself and got things done. Sometimes all you need as a day of no interruption just to get stuff out of the way.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoy you day off. Also Miss M looks adorable for her 1st day of school.
ReplyDeleteI did notice that after I wrote the "costume vs. clothing" post on my blog (which was about a week or two before it went live), I started to notice the same thing. I didn't know how I looked on a daily basis WITHOUT taking my picture. Hmm... I think I either need to go back to daily posting OR invest in more mirrors!!
ReplyDeleteYour little girl is so cute!! Love the yellow skirt!
ReplyDeleteYour comment about your top and The Girls made me laugh. Been there and done that:p
ReplyDeleteGod,yes, do I see some of my pics and think why did I believe that looked good on me? It's helped me move some unflattering items on in The Circle of Clothes.
I love how Kayla's new color turned out. I take my mental health days every bit as seriously as physical health days. And getting kids off to a first day of school can disrupt the entire routine of a household.
ReplyDeleteI love the bold printed top over the yellow skirt. As the weather cools off, I hope to wear my yellow skirt more (it's wool).
ReplyDeleteI frequently have to face the music when it comes to camera versus mirror. But dressing is an adventure most of the time that I enjoy exploring.
