Many of you have asked me to spill the beans about how I manage my time being a mom, working full-time, blogging, DIY projects, and just getting through the day to day activities in my life. I thought that I would do a mini-series of posts about how I manage different aspects of my life.
Time management is essential for me because I am being pulled in so many different directions on a daily basis. One minute I am working at my job, the next blogging, and the next I am helping my kids with homework or a last minute project.
Today I thought we would start at the beginning of a typical day and discuss tips about getting my butt out the door in the morning.
Prepping the Night Before - I can't tell you how important it is for me to prepare for the next day by working on it the night before. Let me explain:
I like my sleep, so anything to make my mornings go a little smoother gets my day off a good start.
- Prep the coffee pot on automatic brew so it's ready when I wake up (as you can see coffee is important to me in the morning since it's #1 on the list)
- Set out my outfit, accessories and shoes for the next day. I also visualize an alternative outfit in my head in case I am not feeling the outfit that I originally picked out.
- Pack my lunch and the kid's lunches the night before so all we have to do it grab them from the fridge and we are ready to go.
- Check the weather forecast. Yes, I am a dork and like to know what type of weather we could possibly be dealing with the next day. If there is snow, make sure the hats and gloves are ready. If there is rain, make sure the umbrellas and rain boots are handy. Just in case, you always need to be prepared.
- Gather my purse, school bags, etc. by the front door so all we have to do is grab it on the way out the door. I also have a car key holder by the front door to eliminate the "oh my gosh, where are my keys?" drama in the morning.
I think that's about it. These things may seem small, but they make a HUGE impact in making sure my mornings run smoothly.
Do you prepare for your mornings the night before? What are some of your getting out the door tips?
Next week I will discuss how I make time for blogging, Pinterest, and DIY projects. Got something you want me discuss? Let me know in the comments!
oh yes can't wait. i'm excited about the diy projects. lovely greets

I always know taking a few minutes before bed to get ready for the morning makes everything smoother, as does taking a walk through the house to pick up the daily dose of clutter. It's nice going to bed knowing you're ready to concur tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post Heather! I often wonder how I'll feel about continuing blogging when I become a mother (I emphasize: one day in the distant future!). It's nice to hear how people juggle things, practically speaking.
ReplyDeletePrepping the night before is a huge part of how I'm able to keep up with all I need to do. I also do a 10-minute clean up before bed so that I wake up to a clean house and not a stack of dirty dishes.
ReplyDeletePrepping the night before is the only way I can get out the door in the morning in one piece!! Setting the coffe to brew is perfection!!
ReplyDeleteMy school drop off mornings definitely go a lot smoother when I lay out all our clothes the night before!
ReplyDeleteIf I have to work early the in the morning. I pull my clothes out the night before. I need to start making lunch at night. These are great time. I'm not a coffee drinker. So don't have to worry about the coffee pot.
ReplyDeletethat's exactly what i do heather! it really helps you the next morning. plus it keeps your room and closet in tact. hahaha

having things ready the night before is so important! I'd always rather have the extra sleep in the AM and things like getting lunch and outfits ready always seem to take twice as long in the morning.

Hi, Many of our fans are looking forward to see pictures from excellent bloggers like you on world's 1st eyewear styling community plus.firmoo.com, could we have the honor to see you there?
ReplyDeleteI have to get ready the night before, or I absolutely will be late for work. This especially became important when I got my puppy because now I have to spend 30 minutes + getting him fed and walked in the morning too. The only other tip I would add is having a standby outfit. I always have one super simple outfit that is ready at all times. My go to outfit is usually a simple blouse, dress pants, and a pair of flats.
ReplyDeleteI don't have kids, but I am working full-time and getting my master's degree at the same time. Between work, school, blogging, and working out, my days are packed! For me, it's all about keeping a schedule and nightly prep. I also get up at 5am so I can get some of those little chores (like laundry or dishes) out of the way.
ReplyDeleteGreat tips. I do all of them except put my stuff near the front door. Need to add that to my routine!
